I am so happy to announce that Julia Hammett, LMFT is working as a therapist with children and teens in my practice!
Julia always knew she would grow up to work with children and teenagers. From a young age, she told herself to remember how it felt to be a kid so that one day she’d become an adult who could understand and help them. After studying Fine Arts and earning a BA at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, Julia taught art at Reggio Emilia early education school in Maryland. She loved her students, but longed to be able to give each of them individual and undivided attention. She also discovered at school conferences that she loved working with caregivers and hearing more about what was going on in the homes of each of her families.
So, Julia moved to California where she earned a MA from Notre Dame de Namur University in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy. Since 2014, she has worked with several agencies and schools in the Bay Area, including Acknowledge Alliance, Edgewood Center for Children and Families, and KIPP Bay Area Schools. She helps children ages 4-18 and their families with social skills, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ and identity, bereavement, trauma, big life transitions, and more by combining play therapy and art therapy with a Cognitive Behavioral and Narrative approach. She feels honored to be a part of the lives of the families that she meets, but most of all she feels lucky to work with children and teenagers; just as she always knew that she would.
